Frequently Asked Questions

AD Bulk Contacts

1. After import some attributes such as description are wrapped in "quotes"?

If you are using Excel then Excel automatically adds quotes around cells that contain a comma. So in this example if a users description is going to contain Dr, R Smith and you are using Excel you don't need to wrap the user in quotes as Excel will do that for you when you save the file as in the CSV format.

2. Can I add contacts with an external e-mail address that can be seen in the  Exchange Global Adress List ?

Yes, simply set the contacts Exchange alias propery (by default a mail enabled contact should appear in the global address list) and set the Exchange e-mail address, prefix this with 'SMTP:', for example SMTP:bill@ms.com. When a mail is sent to the alias it will be forwarded to the external address.

3. How do I set the Country/Region on the users address tab?

The Country/Region property name is simply 'c' (lowercase), the country/region values are defined by Active Directory so you must insert the correct value. If you want to set the value to United Kingdom the use the country code 'GB', for Germany use 'DE' and so on. You can find a full list of country codes here.

4. Is it possible for the program to create an Organizational Unit?

At present no this is not possible, we are looking at adding this in a future release.

5. I am using Exchange 5.5, the Contact isn't being mail-enabled?

The program only supports Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 as these are both integrated with Active Directory. There are no plans to add support for Exchange 5.5.

6. Does the ODBC function of the program support MySQL?

Currently only Microsoft SQL supported although MySQL support will be added in a future release.

7. An invalid directory pathname was passed.

The most common cause of this message is that the Contact you are trying to import does not have a valid CN value (common name), in the gui you will see the ‘Contact’ name specified as %lastname% %firstname%, these wildcards rely on the givenName and sn attributes being present in the CSV file. If your contacts don’t have givenName or sn values you can choose to set the CN value to something else. Simply add a column with the header CN and set the value to what you would like the contact name to be.
