How to install the Exchange 2003 Management Tools on Windows XP and Windows Vista

Prerequisites:
Installing the Exchange 2003 Management Tools on Windows XP or Windows XP SP1 has the following prerequisites.
• Internet Information Services (IIS) snap-in.
• SMTP Service. You can disable this service after installation as only the SMTP snap-in is required.
• WWW Publishing Service. You can disable this service after installation.
• Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (Active Directory Users & Computers Etc)
Exchange System Management Tools installation:
1. Once all the prerequisites have been met insert the Exchange Server 2003 CD-ROM
2. If autoplay is not enabled locate <drive>: \setup\i386\setup.exe
3. On the Component Selection page (see Figure 1 below), do the following:
3a. Under Component Name, locate Microsoft Exchange. In the corresponding Action column, select Custom.
3b. Under Component Name, locate Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools. In the corresponding Action column, select Install
4. Click Next, and continue until finished.

• Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (Active Directory Users & Computers Etc)
Exchange System Management Tools installation:
1. Once all the prerequisites have been met insert the Exchange Server 2003 CD-ROM

The Exchange Management Tools and the Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack are not currently supported on Windows Vista. It is however possible to install them, see the URL below for installing the Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack on Vista.
